The Principal's Report
On Monday last week I was delighted to host the 2023 ACC Captains and their parents for our annual ACC Captains Dinner. Since its advent three years ago this event has become a very popular and meaningful evening for the leaders in sport, chess, music and debating to be acknowledged and recognised. The parents genuinely enjoy the opportunity to be present with their sons and share in their leadership journey and to be there to see them presented with their badges and certificates.

Our Guest Speaker was 2013 De La Salle College Captain, Patrick Arceri, now a very experienced and successful physiotherapist. Patrick gave a tremendous presentation of the importance of leadership, friendship and participation as students navigate their way through secondary school. The capacity to embrace opportunities, take the good with the bad to build resilience and be involved in the broader life of the college so as to ensure you are making a valuable contribution were key components of Patrick’s message. Useful lessons for all our students in 2023 and beyond!

Another highlight last week was the annual Ballroom Dancing Social with Star of the Sea. The Social and the weeks of practice leading up to it provide a unique opportunity for the Year 10s to not just learn some formal dancing routines but to also explore and develop new friendships with the Star students in a respectful and safe environment.

The Senior Concert Band’s Term 1 Collaboration with Siena College, culminating in Tuesday evening’s combined concert is another terrific initiative whereby our students are involved in programs with neighbouring girls’ schools. The many months of preparation for The OLSH / De La Salle production of the School of Rock musical (11-13 May) and our annual involvement in drama and musical events with Sacre Coeur are further examples of our having wonderful opportunities to expand their educational horizons beyond the gates of De La and work with neighbouring schools.
