Our Staff
De La Salle College takes immense pride in its highly skilled and diverse staff. Each member brings a unique blend of talent, expertise, and a rich array of experiences that greatly enrich our school.
We are blessed with an incredible team of teachers and professionals, many of whom have dedicated numerous years to De La Salle. Their unwavering dedication and inspirational approach not only contribute to the warm, community spirit of our college but also play a pivotal role in creating a dynamic and engaging educational environment.
Our staff is continually encouraged to grow professionally, with ample opportunities for development each year. This commitment ensures that our teaching methodologies, curriculum, and operational strategies remain at the forefront of educational excellence.
College Executive:
The heart of our strategic and operational leadership lies with the College Executive Team. This group is responsible for steering the various functional areas of the school, diligently guiding the strategic direction of De La Salle College while ensuring the smooth running of daily operations.

Michael Ilott commenced in 2026 as the College’s 22nd Principal, bringing with him a wealth of leadership experience spanning both the education and corporate sectors. Prior to joining the College, Michael served for eight years as Director of Senior School at Xavier College, Kew. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing the College’s strategic vision as one of Australia’s leading Catholic schools and guiding its significant transition to a Years 7–12 structure. Michael holds a Master of Educational Leadership, a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education and a Graduate Diploma in Education from Australian Catholic University, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Wollongong. Michael and his wife, Bronwyn, have two daughters.

David Alexander has held several leadership positions at the College, including, Deputy Principal: Learning and Teaching; Acting Assistant Principal; Director of Learning and Development (Experiential) and Head of Holy Eucharist (Year 9 Campus). A passionate VCE Physical Education teacher, David and his wife Sarah have two primary school boys.

Chris Pye (Class of 1995) took up his role this year and has more than 20 years of teaching experience, 15 years in leadership in Catholic Education. Most recently, Chris was the Dean of Studies at Mazenod College where he saw their highest median study score of 33 in 2024 and 2025. He has extensive experience across academic leadership, curriculum design, staff development and student wellbeing. Chris and his wife Sabrina have two children.

Brad Carmody joined the College this year and was the former Principal and Head of Education at the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS). He is an experienced faith and spiritual leader with a strong background in inclusive education, curriculum design and whole-school improvement. He brings a deep commitment to personalised learning, staff collaboration and student wellbeing. Brad and his wife Sarah have two sons.

Julianna Mahoney joined the College in January this year and has more than 11 years business and management experience in secondary education. Most recently Julianna was a Business Management Consultant at The Knox School. Previously, she held senior finance roles at Wesley College, as the Associate Director, College Treasurer and Secretary and College Finance Manager. Julianna and her husband James have four children.

Jeff Rayner joined the College in 2024 and most recently headed up the Year 9 Campus. Previously, from the UK Jeff has more than 17 years in education. A dedicated Physical Education and Health and Human Development teacher, Jeff channels his love of sport and healthy competition into both his teaching and personal life. Jeff and his wife Cass have recently welcomed their first child.
Tom Murphy has more than 10 years’ experience in secondary education, all of them in an all-boys, Catholic setting, with the last four at the College. Tom worked previously at St Joseph’s Ferntree Gully and has taken on various learning and well-being coordinator roles both there and at De La Salle.

Janet Holden joined the College in 2010. She is an experienced Mathematics teacher with over 18 years in leadership roles. Prior to joining the College, Janet taught within the Government system for 20 years, where she held several positions of responsibility, including Sports Coordinator, Year Level Coordinator and Sub School Leader.
