From the Principal

As we approach the end of Term 1 at De La Salle College Malvern, I would like to take this opportunity to connect with you all. As I complete my first month as Principal, it has been a deeply rewarding beginning, and I am sincerely grateful for the warm welcome extended to me by students, staff and families alike.

Over these first weeks, I have spent time observing classrooms, engaging in conversations, and experiencing the daily life of the College. This has provided me with valuable insight into the culture and character of our community. What stands out most clearly is the strong sense of belonging and the genuine care people show for each other. While every school has areas for growth, it is important to recognise and celebrate the many strengths that already exist within our community.

As we conclude the term, our focus turns to Easter, a time of reflection, hope and renewal. In speaking with students, I recently shared the story of the Road to Emmaus, where two disciples, in their grief and confusion, walked alongside a stranger without recognising him as Jesus. It was only later, in a moment of shared connection, that they came to see His presence. This story offers a powerful message for our community. It reminds us of the importance of recognising the dignity and humanity in those around us. At its heart, this is about how we treat one another each day, through kindness, respect and understanding. It is about encouraging our young people not only to support their friends, but also to have the courage to guide one another when needed, and to show compassion even in challenging relationships. In a world where increasingly our relationships are facilitated by technology, this human connection has never been more important. This weekend in particular gifts us as parents the chance to engage, wholly and without exception with our children. It allows us to engage in the centrality of the Emmaus story, in seeing Christ in the other.

What I have experienced so far at De La Salle gives me great confidence. The way students and staff have engaged with me, with curiosity, openness, and generosity, reflects a community grounded in strong values. These everyday interactions are what shape the culture and character of a school far more than any single initiative. As we conclude the term, I know you will join me in thanking our wonderful staff for their work, dedication, and care in that accompaniment of our students.

As we continue this journey together, my hope is that we build on these foundations, strengthening a culture where each individual feels seen, valued and supported. In doing so, we honour the Lasallian tradition and ensure that kindness and respect remain the hallmarks of our College.

Thank you again for your ongoing support. I wish all families a restful break and a joyful Easter.
