School Drama

Program Highlights

Year 7: Exploration of characters and character relationships with a focus on physicality, conflict and space. Students choreograph a physical theatre performance and explore the quirky character archetypes of Commedia dell’Arte.

Year 8: Exploration of ensemble and improvised performance with a focus on symbolism and the actor-audience relationship. Students devise a performance of an Ancient Greek myth and co-create theatre with an audience.

Year 9: Exploration of expressive and performance skills with a focus on mood and meaning. Students create a melodrama performance and explore forum theatre, focusing on real-life issues and ideas.

Year 10: Study and application of solo and ensemble performance structures with a focus on production areas including lighting and sound design. Students use play-making techniques to create their own solo and group performances based on a given stimulus.

VCE Drama: Advanced study of Drama skills, performance styles, and play-making techniques with a focus on developing complex dramatic performances. Students work individually and collaboratively to devise performances for the school community and their external exam.

Beyond the Classroom

Annual Productions: Each year, students take part in a Senior and Junior Musical and Senior Play. These are Collaborative theatre experiences with Sacré Cœur and OLSH College and offer opportunities for students to be involved on-stage and behind the scenes.

Performance Nights: A range of events throughout the year showcase students’ work from drama classes, including the annual VCE Showcase, presenting top Drama and Music soloists.
The De La Salle Drama department is a safe and inclusive learning space providing students with opportunities to explore, create and connect.

Our Drama Department at De La Salle College is a place where students not only learn about the art of drama but also grow personally and creatively, ready to make their mark in the world of arts.
