Dear Parents,

Week 8 of this term, will see the start of the exam period for Years 7–11. Commencing on June 6^th, all students from Years 7–11 will be involved in a series of exams designed to consolidate and examine the learning that has taken place in Semester One.

Exams are an integral part of the complete learning experience; however, it is also important to note that at Years 10 and 11 they will form part of the basis for determining entry into certain VCE subjects for 2013. For Year 9s this is also the case for those wishing to apply for acceleration into a VCE subject in Year 10, 2013. For Year 8 students it should be noted that Semester One exam results will be a key marker in determining places for the Miguel class Year 9, 2013.

Given the importance of these examinations in terms of academic progression and crucial exam experience prior to Year 12, it is anticipated that your son will complete sustained exam preparation. In each of his classes where an exam is to occur he will be advised of the best way to prepare and given some indication of the content with which he is to be familiar. Staff at the College will assist students in preparing exam revision timetables: however, if your son feels he would like some extra assistance, he is strongly encouraged to speak directly with his subject or homeroom teacher. Students have been provided with greater detail regarding procedure and expectations. The Exam Expectations for Students is attached for your reference.

Attached is the DLS Exam Timetable — Semester 1, 2012; please note that each session correlates with two scheduled periods, thus Session 1 is made up of Periods 1 and 2 and so on. The attached schedule is the exam timetable specific for your son’s year level. A copy of the whole school exam timetable can be found on the College website.

Please note specifics for each year level below:

• Year 7 and 8 students are to be at school for homeroom during the exam period. They will attend exams as scheduled and return to normal classes for the remainder of their school day.
• Year 9 students are to attend homeroom every day of scheduled exams where they will receive instructions regarding procedure for the day. They will not have any scheduled classes and will be dismissed at the conclusion of their last exam each day. Some Year 9 students will have an exam in sessions 1 and 3 but not session2. In this instance they will be allocated a study room and will have normal lunch and recess breaks. They will not be permitted to leave the campus at any time during the day.
• Year 10 and 11 students are not required to be in homeroom, however, they are to present at their exam room at least 10 minutes prior to the commencement of their exams. They are not required to attend school except for their scheduled exams.
• Year 12 students will attend Unit 3 exams where applicable and the GAT on June 14^th. More information regarding Year 12 exams will be provided to students in the next week.

All normal school expectations apply regarding travel on public transport and it is a College requirement that all students attend exams in their full winter uniform.
