From De La Salle College Malvern Courts to the World Stage: 2013 College Basketball Captain Ben Ayer Selected for FIBA 2027 Qualifying

Congratulations to former De La Salle College Basketball Captain Ben Ayre on making his Boomers debut in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in Ben’s sporting career and is a moment of immense pride for our entire College community.

After graduating from De La Salle College in 2013, Ben continued to develop his talent through state, national and NBL pathways. His commitment saw him progress from local competitions to professional contracts, including standout seasons with Cairns, South East Melbourne and now Tasmania. Each step sharpened his skills, built his confidence and paved the way for this extraordinary moment representing Australia.

Ben’s journey from the College courts to the international arena reflects the heart of a De La Salle education. His story speaks to the opportunities we provide for young men to grow as leaders, strive for excellence and pursue their ambitions with purpose and confidence. His dedication is testament to the strong foundations built during his time at the College, where passion, teamwork and resilience were central to his development.

Reflecting on his journey, Ben shared,
“I just really like playing basketball and am very grateful to be around a lot of great players and learn from everyone. Being at Cairns and South East and now Tasmania, I think my development is just a testament to the people I’ve been around.”

We look forward to watching Ben continue to grow, inspire and lead as he takes this exciting next step in his basketball career.

Well done, Ben! We’re cheering you on.

The Australian Boomers came from behind to open their FIBA World Cup qualifying campaign with a thrilling win over the New Zealand Tall Blacks on Friday 28 November 2025.
