We began Term 2 by celebrating the outstanding achievements of our swimmers from the final week of Term 1. Finishing 3rd in Division 1 is a tremendous accomplishment and reflects not only individual excellence but also the collective commitment, discipline and team spirit shown by our squad. This result sets a strong standard for the year ahead. A key highlight of the event was Gabriel Yeo breaking the ACC record. Gabriel delivered a swim for the ages in the Under 14 50m Breaststroke, breaking a 17-year-old record with a blistering time of 31.43 seconds, nearly three seconds faster than the previous mark. This was a truly exceptional performance and a proud moment for the College.
Term 2 marked the commencement of ACC competition for Years 7–10, providing many students with the opportunity to represent the College with pride. Students demonstrated admirable commitment as they transitioned into their respective AFL football, soccer and badminton programs, embracing both the challenge and enjoyment of interschool competition.
The Senior Football team made a significant return to Division 1 for the first time in eight years. Competing at this elite level required resilience and determination, and the team rose to the challenge admirably. Winning three of their final four matches to finish equal 5th, they narrowly missed finals. This effort reflects both the growth of the group and a strong foundation built between our school and the DLS football club.
Our Senior Soccer side, despite being significantly challenged by injuries throughout the season, demonstrated outstanding grit and resilience to climb into 4th position at the end of the regular season. While they were ultimately unable to defend last year’s Premiership, going down in a hard-fought Semi-final, their efforts across the season were commendable.
Our Year 10 Soccer team enjoyed a highly competitive season, finishing Runners-Up. Their journey was characterised by cohesive team play, resilience under pressure and a willingness to support one another throughout the campaign. They are to be commended for their consistency and sportsmanship.
A standout achievement this term came from our Year 9 Football team, who claimed the Premiership in dramatic fashion with a last-minute goal. This remarkable victory highlighted the boys’ perseverance, belief in one another and ability to perform in high-pressure moments. It was a fitting reward for a season defined by hard work, unity and pride in the guernsey.
We also congratulate those students who achieved representative honours, including selection in VSAC teams. In swimming, recognition was earned by Gabriel Yeo, Jack Traianedes, Sam Pozzoli and Tali Ngaluafe. In golf, Taegen Dodds was one of only three ACC golfers selected following his outstanding performance in finishing second at the Open Golf Championships. These achievements reflect not only talent but also a strong commitment to continual improvement and excellence.
Beyond traditional ACC sport, our students continued to excel across a wide range of co-curricular activities. Participation in the Culinary Competition, resulting in a 2nd place finish, showcased creativity and collaboration. Our students involved in Open Debating and Public Speaking demonstrated confidence, preparation and intellectual engagement, culminating in winning the Division 2 title. The Intermediate Chess Tournament saw De La Salle finish 2nd in Division 1, highlighting strategic thinking and patience while reinforcing the breadth of opportunities available at the College.
Additionally, it was pleasing to see the introduction of Open Netball for the first time, providing a new avenue for student involvement and further strengthening our inclusive sporting culture.
The term concluded with the Year 7–9 Lightning Premierships, held at Basil Reserve and Stanley Grose in the final days of term. These events were hotly contested and showcased outstanding House spirit. The cumulative House winners were:

• Year 9 – Marks
Overall, Term 2 has been a fine period of competitive sport at De La Salle College, underpinned by resilience, teamwork and a genuine pride in representing the College. We thank all students, coaches and staff for their efforts and commend the positive spirit in which all teams have competed.
